Arne Slot has opened up about his side’s recent transfer spending, suggesting that a significant portion of the reported €450 million outlay has not translated into consistent on-pitch impact.
Speaking candidly, Slot said:
“From the €450m that we spent, I have only been able to use €250m.
Alexander Isak has never been fit so far. Giovanni Leoni is ruled out for the entire season. Frimpong has only had impact in 5/6 games. We bought a 2nd goalkeeper for €35m (Mamardashvili) who barely plays.
So we haven’t even used €250m of the €450m that we spent, while our rivals spent €200m, €300m, €400m in ADDING players to their squad, instead of REPLACING.”
Slot highlighted fitness issues affecting Alexander Isak, the season-ending injury to Giovanni Leoni, and limited influence from Jeremie Frimpong. He also referenced the €35m signing of goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who has seen limited action.
The manager’s comments underline frustration over injuries and squad availability, suggesting that headline spending figures do not always reflect the practical resources available throughout a season.
